There is one thing that probably above all else REALLY REALLY gets me riled up. Sure, many things make me angry....injustice, abuse, inequality, bigotry.....but one thing gets me going more than almost anything else.
This morning I was in a Christian chat room....be aware I was in a CHRISTIAN chat room....and this really was a Christian room, the kind you sign up for and everything, not one of those public ones where every tom dick and harry can walk in. Anyways, this woman was in there, making mean comments about men. I said "whats wrong with men, Im married to a wonderful one!" to which she commented "yeah, lets see how long that lasts!"
Now, most people would probably laugh that off....but to me that comment is not only cruel but INCREDIBLY selfish considering today's climate when ti comes to marriage. You would think, that as a young woman married for nearly four years, I would be celebrated, nay, HAILED as an inspiration to women everywhere for sticking with it, making it work and being in this for life. You would think, that as Christian women fighting against an injust and broken world, we could rally around the young married women of our world and support them, encourage them, love them, and be there for them, cheering them on and doing anything we can to ensure that their marriage beats the statistics and lasts for all time....
Instead...what do I as a young married woman get???? I get sneering, I get sarcasm, I get caustic comments, I get cynicism and negativity. FOR SHAME! It is hard enough in this day and age to be married, to have made that "for life" commitment and REALLY mean it. Marriages are crumbling all around me, morality is at an all time low, I am bombarded day in day out by images that contracdict any ideal of fidelity or truthfulness or honesty in a relationship. Plastered all over television are images of women and men cheating on eachother, being promiscuous, "dating" and sleeping around, and dissing marriage.
I take pride in my marriage....its not a sinful pride, its a pride that remains completely grateful for what God has provided for me. I have a wonderful christian husband ( who wasnt Christian when we met mind you) I have a wonderful life, I have great friends and a strong connection to my husband that I know with God's provision will stand the tests of time nomatter what. Isnt it about time that Christian women everywhere decide to take a stand AGAINST this world - to encourage the married women of our community and WATCH OUR LANGUAGE! Be careful what you say about men, about marriage, particularly to those who are young and married. Those kind of comments REALLY REALLY hurt, they discourage and dishearten those of us who are going against the grain and living in a marriage that is for life nomatter what. I think its disgusting when women speak ill of men and of marriage....no wonder the divorce rate is climbing! Lets be different than this world for once! Please!!!!! Hug a married woman you know today and tell them you're proud to witness their commitment!!!
